Major League Baseball News Article | | | Friday, June 22nd, 2007: Pavano Blanks Padres Carl Pavano was downright nasty in pitching a 3-hit shutout against San Diego. His splitter was diving, his slider was breaking, and the Padres were swinging and looking bad. The Mariners hurler fanned 4 and walked 0 in a strong outing. "As the game went on, he got stronger," his manager said. "I thought he really turned it up a notch in the eighth and ninth and probably threw his best breaking balls in those two innings. They put a lot of balls in play early in the count because he was throwing strikes."
To date this year, Pavano shows a 4-5 record, 11 appearances, 68.1 innings, 40 strikeouts and a 4.61 ERA. | |
