Tuesday, July 8th, 2008: Franklin Blanks Bats
It was a razor-sharp performance by Ryan Franklin of the Scranton-Wilkes Barre Red Barons against the Louisville Bats. He fashioned a fine 6-hitter in blanking them and chalked up 7 strikeouts and no bases on balls.

This season the 35-year-old Franklin has compiled a 11-6 mark, 2.28 ERA, made 23 starting appearances, fanned 126 batters, issued 36 bases on balls, tossed 138.1 innings and held the opposition to a .215 batting average.
Monday, July 7th, 2008: IL Player of the Week Goes to Velazquez of Rochester
The International League presented its most recent Player of the Week award to Rochester Red Wings shortstop Gil Velazquez.

"Velazquez's numbers speak for themselves," a club publicist said. "He's been really seeing the ball well." Indeed, Velazquez has: Last week he went 13 for 28, a .464 average, with 1 home run and 4 RBI.

Velazquez has socked 27 hits in 77 at-bats for a .351 average, tagged 9 doubles, 0 three-baggers, and 1 homers, crossed home plate 7 times, and put up 6 RBI. In addition, he has walked 2 times, stolen 1 bases, and compiled a .362 OBP.
Saturday, July 5th, 2008: Collin Mahoney Baffles Ottawa in Shutout Performance
Collin Mahoney shut 'em down and shut 'em out, hurling Toledo past Ottawa in a complete game shutout victory. He told SION sportswriters in the postgame interview, "This is a game of adjustments, and I made some good ones in this game." Mahoney held the Ottawa Lynx without a run, tossing a 1-hitter, while walking 0 and fanning 5.

Mahoney appears to be unfazed by the hype surrounding him. 2008 has been a good one for him. This young 25-year-old has made 17 starts, thrown 129.2 innings, fanned 114 batters and walked 47. His record is 3 wins and 9 losses with a 2.50 ERA, and opposing hitters have compiled a .194 against him.
