The 27-year-old left fielder went about his business with vigor last week, compiling a .524 average, 1 home run, and 4 RBI to take home EL Player of the Week honors.
So far in 2008, Williams is slapping the ball at a .311 pace, picking up 99 hits in the process. He has logged 26 extra-base hits, including 1 home run, and has brought 33 of his teammates home. He also owns a .351 OBP thus far. |  | Saturday, July 5th, 2008: Jeffress Blanks Portland Jeremy Jeffress was on top of his game today. He tantalized the Portland Sea Dogs with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest and came away with a shutout. In the postgame comments, the Portland skipper said, "He had the changeup working. You knew it was coming, and you still grounded out--and then he threw it even slower."
The Reading hurler had 9 strikeouts, gave up 0 walks, and surrendered 3 base hits in his route-going effort. Jeffress told reporters after the game, "To be successful in this league, you have to keep the ball down. If you don't, they'll make you pay."

The Binghamton starter delivered time and again last month and finished up June with a sparkling 5-1 record. In 6 starts he tossed 42 innings, posted 40 strikeouts, and put up a 0.43 ERA. The Binghamton Mets certainly hope Scobie puts more months like this one into the record books.
Scobie has registered 7 wins and 4 losses this season with a 1.93 ERA, and he has whiffed 109 batters in 116.2 innings.
