Monday, July 7th, 2008: EL Player of the Week Chosen: It's Marland Williams of the Harrisburg Senators
Marland Williams is respected by most Harrisburg Senators fans for his no-frills style of play. The 27-year-old left fielder went about his business with vigor last week, compiling a .524 average, 1 home run, and 4 RBI to take home EL Player of the Week honors.

So far in 2008, Williams is slapping the ball at a .311 pace, picking up 99 hits in the process. He has logged 26 extra-base hits, including 1 home run, and has brought 33 of his teammates home. He also owns a .351 OBP thus far.
Saturday, July 5th, 2008: Jeffress Blanks Portland
Jeremy Jeffress was on top of his game today. He tantalized the Portland Sea Dogs with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest and came away with a shutout. In the postgame comments, the Portland skipper said, "He had the changeup working. You knew it was coming, and you still grounded out--and then he threw it even slower."

The Reading hurler had 9 strikeouts, gave up 0 walks, and surrendered 3 base hits in his route-going effort. Jeffress told reporters after the game, "To be successful in this league, you have to keep the ball down. If you don't, they'll make you pay."

In 2008 Jeremy Jeffress has a record of 7 wins and 5 losses with 93 strikeouts in 127.2 innings pitched with a 2.96 ERA.
Tuesday, July 1st, 2008: Jason Scobie of the Binghamton Mets Named Recipient of Eastern League Pitcher of the Month Honors
Jason Scobie is the latest Eastern League Pitcher of the Month award winner. The Binghamton starter delivered time and again last month and finished up June with a sparkling 5-1 record. In 6 starts he tossed 42 innings, posted 40 strikeouts, and put up a 0.43 ERA. The Binghamton Mets certainly hope Scobie puts more months like this one into the record books.

Scobie has registered 7 wins and 4 losses this season with a 1.93 ERA, and he has whiffed 109 batters in 116.2 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .195 against him.
