On the downside, Lyons has grounded into 4 double plays, has 31 strikeouts and been caught stealing 1 times. |  | Monday, July 7th, 2008: SL Names Valido of the Birmingham Barons Player of the Week Birmingham Barons shortstop Robert Valido had a great time at the plate last week, running up some numbers that no one else could match. Few people were surprised today when the Southern League named him Player of the Week.
Valido banged out 12 hits on the way to a .462 batting average. He put 3 home runs into the stands, scored 9 times, and pushed across 10 runs. He took 2 walks, which helped bring his on base percentage to .500.
In 2008 Valido, the Birmingham shortstop, is hitting at a .275 clip so far, picking up 77 hits along the way. He has piled up these numbers: .342 OBP, 46 RBI, 45 runs, and 6 home runs, while striking out 55 times. |  | Saturday, July 5th, 2008: Mabry of Huntsville Sparkles in Shutout Gem Sonny Mabry was almost untouchable in his outing against the Montgomery Biscuits. He hurled the Huntsville Stars to a shutout victory, yielding 2 hits, fanning 4, and walking 0. "A complete game shutout. That's fun territory for me," he told reporters in the postgame interview. "I had good balance and mechanics and was able to keep the ball down. When I do that, good things happen."
