 | Saturday, July 5th, 2008: Modesto Humbled in Shutout by Blaze "He was kind of teasing them with his offspeed stuff, and his fastball was moving everywhere," the Bakersfield skipper said in postgame comments after Josh Rupe had shut out the Modesto Nuts on a 4-hit masterpiece. Rupe sat down 3 batters on strikeouts and issued 1 bases on balls in a gem of a performance. "We just didn't swing the bats very well . . . or he just pitched good, whichever way you want to look at it," moaned the Modesto manager after the defeat. Up to now in the season Rupe has compiled an ERA of 1.51 with 13 victories and 2 defeats over 17 starts. He has 77 strikeouts in 119.1 innings and has held opponents to a .166 batting average. |
