Pat McElveen of the Sarasota Reds shut down the Palm Beach Cardinals on an excellent 3-hitter, holding them scoreless, while ringing up 6 strikeouts and allowing no bases on balls. After the game McElveen said, "Guys have been fouling off a lot of pitches lately, and I've been getting into too many deep pitch counts, but I'm pleased with the way things went today. I went right after them and stayed ahead in the count."
Over the season McElveen has thrown 140.2 innings and dished out 67 strikeouts with a 11-1 mark and a 2.11 ERA. |
 | Wednesday, July 9th, 2008: Tampa Whitewashes Daytona, Dotson Wins It
The Cubs manager was philosophical after his team was shut out by the Tampa Yankees. "It was just one of those games, wash it off and do better next time," he said. Shannon Dotson blanked them on 1 hits while walking 2 and striking out 3.
"I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs. They were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Dotson said. "I set them up pretty good, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one."
Currently Dotson has registered 14 wins and 2 losses and pitched 143 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .121 against the Tampa starter. He also has piled up 81 strikeouts and sports a 0.82 ERA. |

"That was one of my best outings," said Blake Johnson. "I was worried a lot in the bullpen. My ball wasn't quite right. Luckily, it can be two different worlds--the bullpen and the game. Once I stepped on the field, it all fell into place." It was an impressive start for the Dodgers hurler. He shut down the Manatees on a strong 1-hitter, holding them scoreless while ringing up 8 strikeouts and doling out no bases on balls.
Over the season Blake Johnson has compiled a 9-1 mark, 1.03 ERA, made 7 starting appearances, fanned 78 batters, issued 19 bases on balls, tossed 113.2 innings and held the opposition to a .159 batting average. |
