The South Atlantic League honored Juan Tejeda with the Outstanding Hitter Award earlier today. 2008 was a career year for the Savannah Sand Gnats first baseman, who posted a batting average of .289 with 46 runs batted in and 14 dingers for good measure.

 | Tuesday, July 1st, 2008: 2008 Outstanding Pitcher Award Announced in SAL, Trophy Presented to Charleston Star Saslove
Brett Saslove was a spectacular pitcher for Charleston in 2008. This season he carded a sensational 10-2 record with a splendid 1.30 ERA and piled up 46 Ks. For these outstanding stats he easily walked off with the South Atlantic League Outstanding Pitcher Award. Saslove got the starting assignment 12 times, tossed 90.1 innings and yielded only 46 base hits. Enemy batters hit only .150 against him.

In baseball parlance a player with good range, good arm and good hands is a great catch. Clubs strive to be strong especially "up the middle." Solid defenders can make a difference in the outcome of tight games and tight pennant races. Good defense will be honored tonight at the annual SION sports awards banquet. This year's South Atlantic League Glove Wizard Award will be presented to these standout defenders:
