Thursday, July 10th, 2008: GCL's Malabranca Shuts out Phillies
"That's one thing that has never changed in this game--pitching can control hitting," the Mets manager told reporters after today's game. The Phillies ran into a buzzsaw as Aurelien Malabranca cut them down to size with a 4-hit shutout. His skipper added, "He knows exactly what he's doing. He's not going to throw you a good pitch until you make him throw one."

In the complete game whitewash the GCL hurler doled out 1 free passes and struck out 5. In the postgame press conference, his catcher said, "Aurelien goes out there and just goes about his business. I don't think he gets too concerned about what's going on. You can call any pitch and you know where he's going to be."

Malabranca also got some praise from the GCL manager. "He really kept us in check with that heavy sinker. It has some run on it . . . as well as some down to it. We took some pathetic swings."

Thursday, July 10th, 2008: Dabin Cruises to Shutout Win over Yankees
Juan Dabin of the GCL Nationals was in command from start to finish in his shutout win over the GCL Yankees. He struck out 4, walked 1, and allowed 5 hits. "I felt strong the entire game," Dabin said. "I felt like I had my good stuff. It was just one of those nights when everything was working."

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008: Velésquez Hurls GCL to Shutout Victory
The GCL Pirates struggled at the plate today against Dodgers hurler Aquila Velésquez, who shackled them on 2 hits while hurling a complete game shutout. "What can you say? We just stunk," said the Pirates skipper in his postgame comments. "But tomorrow will be another day . . . I hope."

Velésquez finished the game with 2 strikeouts and no bases on balls in an excellent mound performance. "He pitched real well," his manager said. "Aquila made pitches when he had to. He hit his spots and did a great job of mixing in his changeup and using his fastball effectively."
