Arizona Summer League 07-13-2008 Home | | | Breaking News |  | Tuesday, July 8th, 2008: Angels Held Scoreless by AZL Hopping fastballs and sharp sinkers mixed in with a few slow curves sunk the AZL Angels today. Edgar Colon of the AZL Cubs gave them a steady diet of fine pitches, and he walked off the mound with a complete game shutout. He blanked them on 5 hits and struck out 3 while walking 2. The AZL manager said, "Colon was on quite a roll. He gets great late movement, he has that good sinker, and he doesn't give in to the hitters."
|  | Monday, July 7th, 2008: Arizona Summer League Player of the Week is O'Mulgee of AZL With some great hand-eye coordination and a little help from Lady Luck, AZL Giants catcher Doug O'Mulgee took the ASL by storm this past week, belting 12 hits including 2 extra-base hits, along with a .615 OBP and 7 RBI, to take the latest Player of the Week honors.
"The ball was looking like a beach ball all week," a happy O'Mulgee said to SION reporters. "When it's that big, it doesn't matter where they throw it--I can hit it anywhere."

Shang-de Gong of the AZL Brewers no-hit the AZL Athletics, holding them spellbound and hitless in a masterful display. After the game he said, "It was like I was in a dream. The ball just went where I wanted it to go." Gong rang up 2 strikeouts and issued 3 bases on balls.
