| Breaking News | | Saturday, July 12th, 2008: No-Hitter for Stimpson! Keith Stimpson of the Kinston Indians was certainly the King of the Hill today in the Carolina League. He really did a number on the Salem Avalanche, and that number was zero--how many hits he gave up.
"I can't believe I got a no-hitter!" said an exuberant Stimpson after the game. "That is the last thing you think about when you go out to the mound. You just want to win the game. The toughest part was the last couple of innings. Everybody in the ballpark knows you have a no-hitter, including me. That was the hard part, keeping your poise and concentration while your heart is pounding."
Stimpson recorded 10 strikeouts and 2 bases on balls in his sensational performance.
To date Stimpson is putting together a respectable season from the rubber. He has made 15 starts, tossed 115 innings, struck out 58 batters, and walked 38. His won-lost record is 6-6, and he owns a 2.27 ERA. He has limited opposing teams to a .152 BA. | | Wednesday, July 9th, 2008: Lynchburg Comes up Empty Against Enomoto The Lynchburg Hillcats met their match today in Kinston hurler Michizane Enomoto. He kept them guessing the whole game and spun a 3-hit shutout. "He just worked us over good," the Lynchburg skipper said. "He probably didn't even take a shower after the game. I don't think he even worked up a sweat. They could probably pitch him again tomorrow." In the victory Enomoto whiffed 1 and gave up 1 base on balls.
In the current season in 2 starts, Michizane Enomoto has a record of 3-3 with 11 strikeouts in 40.1 innings and a 1.12 ERA. | | Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008: Garrett, King of Fling With a No-Hitter! Darryl Garrett made quick work of the Winston-Salem Warthogs earlier today. The 20-year-old hurler tossed a no-hitter, fanning 4 batters in 9 innings. "I really didn't have my best stuff today," he admitted after the game, "there's a lot of luck involved in throwing a no-hitter. People don't believe that, but it's true." Luck, or not, Garrett will go down in history.
In his first shot in the bigs, Garrett has logged a 10-3 season. He has started 17 games and given up 1.20 in 120.1 innings. He has also struck out 51 batters and walked 40 others. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | P Dave Newton | Herniated Disc (Back) | 4-5 weeks | Not on DL | | 3B Alfredo Ortíz | Fractured Ulna (arm) | 4 weeks | Not on DL | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 50-34, .595 PCT | | Position in Division | 1st, - GB | | Record at home | 28-18, .609 PCT | | Record on the road | 22-16, .579 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 5-5, .500 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 18-15, .545 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 7-10, .412 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 43-24, .642 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 7-3, .700 PCT | | Record in April | 8-11, .421 PCT | | Record in May | 16-11, .593 PCT | | Record in June | 18-9, .667 PCT | | Record in July | 8-3, .727 PCT |
