| Breaking News | | Tuesday, July 8th, 2008: Johnson Toys with Brevard County in Shutout "That was one of my best outings," said Blake Johnson. "I was worried a lot in the bullpen. My ball wasn't quite right. Luckily, it can be two different worlds--the bullpen and the game. Once I stepped on the field, it all fell into place." It was an impressive start for the Dodgers hurler. He shut down the Manatees on a strong 1-hitter, holding them scoreless while ringing up 8 strikeouts and doling out no bases on balls.
Over the season Blake Johnson has compiled a 9-1 mark, 1.03 ERA, made 7 starting appearances, fanned 78 batters, issued 19 bases on balls, tossed 113.2 innings and held the opposition to a .159 batting average. | | Monday, July 7th, 2008: Santana, King of Fling With a No-Hitter! It was a game that all pitchers dream about: a no-hitter. Geivy Santana of the Vero Beach Dodgers was right on target against the Brevard County Manatees. He really zeroed in on them, holding them hitless with 1 strikeout and 1 base on balls.
Santana said he just had it all today, "very good stuff and great location, a combination that's hard to beat."
Santana takes the hill with confidence. He has really wowed some scouts with the numbers he has been putting up--given his age. The 23-year-old Santana has racked up 8 wins and 8 losses in 18 starts. He has also posted an ERA of 2.67 and struck out 17 batters in 108 innings. | | Monday, June 16th, 2008: Alvarado Spins Shutout Against Manatees The Brevard County Manatees met their match today in Lakeland hurler Luís Alvarado. He kept them guessing the whole game and spun a 3-hit shutout. "He just worked us over good," the Brevard County skipper said. "He probably didn't even take a shower after the game. I don't think he even worked up a sweat. They could probably pitch him again tomorrow." In the victory Alvarado whiffed 1 and gave up 1 base on balls.
