Lake County starter Duane Hearst really did a number on the RiverDogs today, shutting them out on 1 hits in a route-going victory. He issued 3 walks and had 4 strikeouts. In his postgame comments, the Charleston manager said, "We didn't have good at bats. I don't like to make excuses, but basically when we were playing the game, our energy didn't show."
Hearst makes scouts wonder why they didn't draft him. He might not appear to be much at first, but the guy just has that presence about him, a maturity beyond his years, that could signal a long pro career. The 22-year-old pitcher has won 7 and lost 1, collecting 42 strikeouts and 20 bases on balls in 71 innings with a 1.14 ERA. Opponents have hit .145 against him.

| Sunday, June 1st, 2008: SAL Pitchers Meet Their Match...Chris Curie Named Best Batter of the Month
One of the more consistent batters in May, Lake County center fielder Chris Curie grabbed SAL Batter of the Month honors by swatting a stout .373 with 25 hits in 67 at-bats, 9 home runs, 4 doubles and 30 RBI. He also scored 15 times and chalked up 11 bases on balls and a .469 on base percentage.
The Lake County Captains' center fielder is batting .318 on the season, with 9 home runs and 39 RBI to date.

| Monday, May 26th, 2008: South Atlantic League Acclaims Chris Curie of Lake County as Player of the Week
It can be difficult for a young player to step out of the shadows and assert himself in the South Atlantic League, but last week Chris Curie reminded everyone just why he's here, throwing up numbers that made him an easy selection for Player of the Week. Curie rocked opposing pitching for a .533 average, 6 extra-base hits including 4 home runs, and 12 RBI to come away with the award.
Curie is hitting at a .318 mark so far this season. He has raked 26 singles, 7 doubles, and 9 home runs, punching across 39 runs batted in to date. Curie has struck out 21 times, earning 20 walks for the year. He has a .420 OBP and an OPS of .996.
