Alberto Guasch was almost untouchable in his outing against the Kannapolis Intimidators. He hurled the Hagerstown Suns to a shutout victory, yielding 5 hits, fanning 9, and walking 2. "A complete game shutout. That's fun territory for me," he told reporters in the postgame interview. "I had good balance and mechanics and was able to keep the ball down. When I do that, good things happen."

Mário Gueirero of the Kannapolis Intimidators spun his magic on the West Virginia Power today. He blanked them on 2 hits, registering 1 strikeout and 1 base on balls. "The bottom line was I just kept the ball down," Gueirero said. "My breaking stuff was down. Everything was down." Talking to reporters in the postgame interview, the Kannapolis skipper said, "We got solid pitching, good defense, and we took great team at-bats in a lot of different situations. This was just a solid performance throughout the lineup."
In his first shot in the bigs, Gueirero has logged a 1-2 season. He has started 5 games and given up 3.82 in 30.2 innings. He has also struck out 5 batters and walked 9 others.

Wu-jiang Liu of the Kannapolis Intimidators was on fire against Hickory. He shut them down on 4 hits and no runs with 3 strikeouts and 3 bases on balls. "The first two pitches I'm looking for an out, a ground ball or a fly ball," Liu said. "I'm trying to get quick outs. I've never been a big believer from the very first pitch trying to strike a guy out. Normally, you end up behind in the count in that situation."
