Thursday, July 10th, 2008: Chen Hurls Nationals to Shutout Win
It was a smooth and solid performance by Bruce Chen of the Washington Nationals against the Houston today. He crafted a fine 3-hitter in blanking them and chalked up 4 strikeouts and 2 bases on balls along the way. "It certainly makes my job easy," said the Washington skipper. "When my pitcher pitches a shutout. I can just sit back, watch, and enjoy."

Thus far this season, the 31-year-old Chen has posted a 7-4 record. He has started 18 games, struck out 68 batters in 112.2 innings, and compiled a 2.80 ERA.
Monday, July 7th, 2008: Astros First Baseman Travis Hafner Wins National League Player of the Week Award
There was no one hotter in the National League last week, as Travis Hafner attacked enemy pitching with a vengeance. The 31-year-old Houston Astros first baseman batted .417, rapping out 10 hits, including 2 doubles and 4 home runs, to nab the league's Player of the Week prize.

In 2008, Hafner is hitting .340 with 18 home runs and 50 runs batted in. He also boasts an OBP of .407 with 25 bases on balls and 54 runs scored.
Tuesday, July 1st, 2008: Andy Pettitte of the Houston Astros Honored as National League Pitcher of the Month
It was a sensational June for Andy Pettitte as he mystified, mesmerized, and terrorized opposing batters to capture the Pitcher of the Month trophy. Included in his spectacular stats was a 5-1 won-lost mark in 6 starting appearances. Pettitte permitted only 42 base hits in 44 innings, while taking down 30 hitters by the strikeout route. Enemy batters hit only .247 against him during the month.

To date Pettitte is 10-3 with 16 games started and an ERA of 2.68 with 84 strikeouts in 121 innings.
