The 6 Point Plan for Fixing the Yankees This Season
May 21, 2007 By: mcmagic
1. DFA Josh Phelps and Doug Meintkiewicz and Promote Eric Duncan and Andy Phillips. I’ve been a Phelps supporter from the second the Yankees drafted him in the rule 5 draft. However, it’s clear that he’s not going to get a real chance to play the way he has been used. Duncan has shown consistent power this year and that’s something this team is sorely lacking. He deserves a chance. Now. Duncan should play 1B at least 5 days a week and Phillips would be used for late inning defense and as a replacement vs select tough lefties.

Worst Moves of the Off-Season.
March 20, 2007 By: mcmagic
Earlier I wrote an article on the best signings in an out of control FA market. Here is the flip side. This one was a bit more fun because there are a hell of a lot more awful signings to sift through and the vile stench emanating from them is worse then I can remember it in all my time as a person who follows our national pastime. This bull market also changes the criteria for what makes a good and bad signing. Merely overpaying won’t get you on this list, which is why you won’t see signings that in the past would have been considered insane, such as Zito and Soriano. So here goes the worst of the worst… (of the worst.)

Jets Final Report Card
By: mcmagic
Mike Tannenbaum – B+: He had a great draft but free agent class was unimpressive. He’ll need to do a better job with the 30+ million of cap space the jets have for next year.

Here are some of the differences as they have played out and what you can expect in the future from this new era of Yankee management.

Are you kidding me? ________ got HOW much?
December 1, 2006 By: mcmagic
At this point in most baseball off-seasons, we prepare for the winter meetings and the flurry of activity that goes along with them. Many people who put pen to paper on the subject take their time to review the player movement, or lack thereof, that has taken place in the weeks prior. This, however, is not most baseball off-seasons. It’s clear that a lot of teams are making a lot of money and teams apparently aren’t afraid to spend it. The unprecedented amount of money that is moving around this off-season will have long-term ramifications for the salary structure of the sport. The albatross deals that go down on a daily basis make it hard to come up with a list of bad vs. good signings because there is just so little in this market that makes sense. The way baseball contracts are looked at and the way players are assigned value might never be the same. With that being said, here is a list of five signings that, in years past would have looked crazy. These signings make a little more sense in this extreme bear market.

TRADING PLACES Some trade ideas....
By: mcmagic
With the unadulterated bonanza known as the free agent market in full swing, each eye popping contract is followed only by another more absurd deal. While this is good news for Major League Baseball because it indicates that a lot of teams have a lot of money to spend, this market also makes it very hard for teams looking to improve quickly within a budget. In response to this, teams are turning away from the Free Agent market and looking for trades that fit both teams' needs. Here are four trades that make sense for both teams and would be quick fixes for teams fed up with the outrageous contracts that are going around:
